JICA delivers ₱2-M birthing equipment to BARMM
Maternal and newborn healthcare facilities across the Bangsamoro region are set to receive ₱2 million worth of medical equipment from Japan to help provide safer childbirth and better care for mothers and babies.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM), formally turned over the equipment in Cotabato City on August 27.
The package includes obstetric delivery tables with stirrups, examination tables, bassinets, and other essential birthing and newborn-care equipment that will be distributed to beneficiary health facilities across BARMM.
“Every piece of equipment being turned over today represents an investment in safer pregnancies, safer childbirth, and healthier futures for families across the region,” JICA Senior Representative Hidenori Hashimoto said.
The equipment is expected to strengthen the capacity of local health facilities to deliver essential maternity, newborn, and child healthcare and improve their readiness to respond to maternal and neonatal health needs.
MOH-BARMM Minister Kadil Sinolinding and representatives of recipient facilities committed to properly use and maintain the equipment as part of efforts to improve healthcare services in the region.
The assistance forms part of the Project for Strengthening Services in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Improvement in BARMM, also known as the Ina-WaTaNu BARMM Project, a joint initiative aimed at strengthening health systems and reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths.
The project has carried out baseline assessments, capacity-building programs for healthcare workers, and other interventions focused on improving maternal and neonatal health services.
JICA said the latest turnover builds on its continuing partnership with MOH-BARMM, local governments, and healthcare workers to develop a stronger and more resilient healthcare system and improve health outcomes for mothers and children across the Bangsamoro region.
