Meralco: No disconnection for pending billing disputes
Manila Electric Company (Meralco) clarified that customers who have filed billing-related complaints will not face electricity disconnection while their cases are being reviewed, as the utility also reminded the public that disconnections for unpaid bills covering the May to July 2026 billing periods remain suspended.
The clarification comes amid concerns over electricity bills that have circulated on social media in recent weeks.
“We would like to clarify that electricity service of Meralco customers with pending billing concerns will not be disconnected while their cases are under investigation,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
Meralco also reiterated that the nationwide suspension of disconnection activities for unpaid bills from May to July 2026 remains in force, following an earlier directive from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
“We also reiterate that disconnection activities for all consumers with unpaid balances covering the May to July billing periods remain suspended,” Zaldarriaga said.
The power distributor encouraged customers with questions about their electricity bills, consumption, or meter readings to raise their concerns through its official customer service channels.
According to Meralco, all reported billing concerns are being reviewed and addressed.
“We continuously address the concerns of all customers regarding their electricity bills, consumption, or meter reading through our official customer touch points. Rest assured that we have been diligently reviewing and resolving every customer concern brought to our attention,” Zaldarriaga said.
This clarification aims to address misinformation and reassure consumers that legitimate billing disputes are being evaluated without the risk of service disconnection while investigations are ongoing.
