Freedom 250 Concert Celebrates Enduring PH-US Friendship

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, in partnership with SM Mall of Asia, is inviting the public to a free musical celebration featuring the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC) Band on June 28 at 5:00 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Sky Amphitheater in Pasay City.

The concert forms part of the United States’ “Freedom 250” campaign, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence while underscoring the longstanding friendship between the Philippines and the United States. The event also serves as a prelude to the milestone anniversaries both nations will mark in 2026—80 years of diplomatic relations and 75 years of the Mutual Defense Treaty.

Joining the MARFORPAC Band are the Armed Forces of the Philippines Band and performers from the World Championship of Performing Arts, creating an evening that celebrates cultural heritage, musical excellence, and shared history.

“At its heart, Freedom 250 is more than a milestone—it is a moment to honor what America stands for and the ideals that have shaped it across generations,” said Chad Kinnear, Deputy Director of Public Engagement at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines. “Through the music of the MARFORPAC Band, that story is told without words, carried by the artistry, discipline, and goodwill that U.S. military musicians have brought to audiences around the world.”

The MARFORPAC Band is composed of 39 Marines, with a 10-member brass ensemble visiting the Philippines for the performance. Beyond their musical expertise, the Marines are fully trained servicemen who represent the U.S. Marine Corps across the Indo-Pacific through cultural and community engagements.

According to U.S. Marine Chief Warrant Officer 2 Aaron Carpenter, the band’s director, each musician has undergone the same rigorous training as every Marine, embodying the Corps’ values of honor, courage, and commitment while using music as a bridge for international engagement.

Aside from the public concert, the visiting musicians will conduct workshops for students at the Philippine High School for the Arts and the University of the East. Their Philippine tour will conclude with a performance at the U.S. Embassy’s annual Independence Day reception, another highlight of the Freedom 250 campaign.

Through performances and educational outreach across the Indo-Pacific, the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band continues to strengthen people-to-people ties, promote cultural diplomacy, and foster goodwill through the universal language of music.
