Meralco strengthens grid for electric mobility shift
The Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) underscored the importance of grid modernization, reliable electricity supply, and charging infrastructure in supporting the Philippines’ transition to electric mobility as it joined the 14th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit for the third consecutive year with its wholly owned electric mobility arm, Movem Electric, Inc.
Representing Meralco and Movem at the summit were One Meralco EV Program Lead and Movem President and Chief Executive Officer Ralph M. Menchavez, and Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Customer Relations & Services Charina P. Padua, who highlighted the companies’ expanding role in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.

Held from October 22 to 24 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, the summit carried the theme “Driving ASEAN Forward: Building an Integrated Electric Mobility Ecosystem,” bringing together industry stakeholders to discuss the infrastructure, policies, energy systems, and customer solutions needed to accelerate EV adoption.
In his message to summit participants, Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho said a modern, resilient, and intelligent power network is essential to unlocking the potential of electric mobility.
“As the country’s largest distribution utility, Meralco continues to invest in network infrastructure and grid modernization to support the growing demand from electric vehicles and other distributed energy resources while advancing the nation’s broader energy transition,” he said.
Aperocho also highlighted Meralco’s role in the EV ecosystem as an enabler, end-user, and market participant.
As an enabler, Meralco now powers more than 2,000 EV charging points across public, private, and residential establishments within its franchise area. The company is also working toward electrifying 25% of its vehicle fleet by 2030, supported by an expanded charging network, while providing employees with access to workplace charging and corporate EV programs.
At the Meralco-Movem booth, the companies showcased home and commercial EV charging solutions.
Meralco assists residential customers in meeting the electrical requirements for EV-ready homes and promotes the safe and proper installation of home chargers. For businesses, the company provides support for electrical infrastructure requirements and the energization of EV charging stations, helping establishments accommodate charging services.
Movem, meanwhile, presented its end-to-end electric mobility solutions for individuals and businesses, including EV supply and leasing, fleet operations, EV shuttling and e-transport services, and charging solutions for corporate and commercial fleets, private establishments, and public charging facilities.
These services are supported by ChargeM, Movem’s charging management platform designed to help customers manage and optimize their charging operations.
Through continued investments in grid modernization and customer solutions, alongside Movem’s expanding electric mobility services, Meralco said it remains focused on strengthening the infrastructure needed to support the country’s transition to electric transportation.
