Rainbow graduates march proudly at Araneta City
For many students, graduation is a long-awaited milestone, a moment to celebrate years of hard work, perseverance, and achievement. For some LGBTQIA+ graduates, however, that milestone has not always come without challenges.
On June 11, Araneta City became the backdrop for a powerful celebration of pride, identity, and academic success as it hosted Quezon City’s “Graduation Rights: A March for LGBTQIA+ Graduates” at Quantum Skyview in Gateway Mall 2.

Held in time for Pride Month, the event honored rainbow graduates who were unable to participate fully in their own commencement ceremonies due to dress code restrictions and other barriers related to their Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE).
More than 200 graduates took part in the meaningful gathering, which championed the right of every student to be recognized and celebrated as their authentic self.

Now in its third year, the initiative marked a significant milestone by moving beyond the Quezon City Hall Complex for the first time. The new venue at Araneta City underscored the growing support for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and provided a vibrant space where graduates could proudly walk across the stage surrounded by allies, family members, and advocates.
Leading the celebration were Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Presidential Special Committee on LGBTQIA+ Affairs Chairperson for Diversity and Inclusion Undersecretary Atty. Ellen Pasion, and Araneta City Senior Vice President for Leasing Lorna D. Fabian. They were joined by community leaders, supporters, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in recognizing the resilience, courage, and accomplishments of the graduates.

Beyond the ceremonial march, the event served as a reminder that graduation is more than receiving a diploma—it is about being seen, valued, and celebrated for who you are.
The march forms part of Araneta City’s month-long Pride celebration, which features a lineup of activities and events throughout June dedicated to fostering inclusivity, self-expression, and community connection. Through initiatives like these, Araneta City continues to create spaces where diversity is embraced and every story can be celebrated with pride.
Other Pride Month activities to watch out for include:
SAFE SPACE SESSION June 18 | Ali Mall
PRIDE BAZAAR June 26-28 | Farmers Plaza
LOVELABAN SA ARANETA June 27 | Gateway Mall 1
