The veteran broadcaster and former press secretary Ricardo Puno, Jr. dies at the age of 76 on February 15, 2022.

The passing of Ricardo Puno, Jr. was confirmed by his family at around twelve noon.

According to the reports, the lawyer, columnist and veteran broadcaster has been in and out of the hospital as his illness progressed.

Despite that he has been in and out of the hospital, his brother said that his death was still a surprise to the family since he has just returned after being confined and already appeared to be getting better.

“The family is grieving, hindi namin expected talaga,” Ronaldo said over the phone.

Dong Puno became one of the most popular broadcaster in the mid-1980s because of his talkshow “Viewpoint” aired on GMA.

Aside from GMA-7, Dong Puno also became one of the most-sought after hosts of the public affairs programs in ABS-CBN, and TV5.

His career started with GMA-7 in 1984 and ended in 1994 with the show Business Today. Meanwhile, in the ABS-CBN network, he was a part of the Dong Puno Live (1995-2005), Dong Puno Tonight (2003), and Insider (2005-2006).

In addition to that, Dong Puno also became a senior vice president of the ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs.

After his career in ABS-CBN, he became a part of the TV5 and Aksyon TV where he was seen in the shows, Kalibre 41 (2011), News5 Debates: Hamon Sa Pagbabago (2011-2013), and Dong Puno De Kalibre (2011-2013).

Meanwhile, Dong Puno’s co-worker in the broadcast industry, Rico Hizon of CNN Philippines admitted that he will never be where he is right now if it wasn’t for Dong Puno.

“Atty Ricardo “Dong” Puno—mentor, boss, friend, colleague and co-host my heart bleeds that you are no longer with us. I wouldn’t be in broadcast news without you.

“Thank you for believing in me. You will forever have a special place in my heart. Rest well Atty Dong, you will be missed. My deepest sympathies to Tita Christy and the family.”
