Miss Universe 2014 Philippine bet MJ Lastimosa recalls the moment where Rabiya Mateo cried upon reuniting with her after the 69th MIss Universe pageant.

The video of Rabiya crying upon meeting MJ and Shamcey Supsup went viral on social media, where it can be observed that our 220 bet was emotional upon hugging her seniors.

In her interview with Plus Talks: Para sa Pinoy sa Kumu, last Wednesday, May 19, MJ explained what exactly happened.

“Nung nakita ko siya, wala pa kaming sinasabi at wala pang words ‘yon, hindi pa kami nag-uusap nun…

“Nung nakita niya lang ako, bigla na siyang na-teary-eyed, at ayun na nga, siguro naibuhos na niya yung emotion niya,”

But despite of their state, MJ managed to remind Rabiya to get ahold of herself to avoid any scene on a public place.

“Sabi ko, ‘Hindi tayo mag-uusap dito. Kasi maraming tao.’

“Hindi ko nga ini-expect. Medyo tinatakpan namin kasi, siyempre, marami nang… para maprotektahan din natin si Rabiya.

“Pero sabi ko sa kanya, ‘I-enjoy muna your time.’ She wanted to mag-me time muna, at mag-travel.”

Continued the former beauty queen, “Kailangan niya rin ng breather.

“Sa totoo talaga, grabe yung training and preparation niya for this.

“I’m sure every candidate na sumali sa Miss Universe, hindi basta-bastang preparations and trainings ang ginagawa nila just to be the best representative of their country.

“This is not easy.

“Pag nasa Miss Universe pageant ka, people doesn’t call you by name. They call you by country.

“Yun pa lang, e, na everybody recognizes you as Philippines, they call you, ‘Hey, Philippines, come here.’ Philippines is suddenly your name.

“So, lahat ng galaw mo nire-represent mo yung mga kababayan mo all around the world, yung mga kababayan mo sa bansa mo.

“So, nakaka-pressure na ‘yon.”
