A refugee from Syria has his life changed after being viral on social media.

Abdul Halim al-Attar, a 33 year old father was one of the affected citizens from the war, and has to escape from his country for the sake of his family.

With no money, property, and anything in hand, Abdul, who was once used to be having a nice job that feeds his family, is now practically a homeless man.

But still eager to make a living, the man started selling pens, with his daughter on his arms, while his wife was out trying to find food as well.

The photograph of Abdul carrying his sleeping daughter on his shoulder while trying to sell his pens under the scorching heat went viral on social media, with the help of a photographer who got moved by his plight.

The photographer also created an online crowdfunding campaign in his name and collected $191,000.

Now, Abdul is far from the streets, successfully opened a bakery two months ago from the money he got and has since added a kebab shop and a small restaurant to his business venture. He employs 16 Syrian refugees.

Expressing his gratitude to the people, he vowed not to only make his life better but also his other people who are suffering from the war.

“Not only did my life change, but also the lives of my children and the lives of people in Syria whom I helped,” he said. Al-Attar said he gave away about $25,000 to friends and relatives in Syria.

n addition to the food businesses, al-Attar moved his children from the one bedroom that they all shared to a two-bedroom apartment in an unfinished building overlooking the highway in southern Beirut.
