PH Coconut Project Named Asia Runner-Up
A Philippine coconut processing project has been named Runner-Up in the Asia Category of the AIM Investment Awards 2026, highlighting the country’s potential to attract investment into higher-value coconut processing and expand its participation in global value chains.
The Syntegral Coconut “Synovation” Integrated Coconut Processing Project, nominated by the Philippine Board of Investments (BOI), received the recognition during the AIM Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in Dubai on September 7, 2026. Trade Undersecretary and BOI Managing Head Ceferino S. Rodolfo accepted the award on behalf of the Philippines.
“Being recognized among Asia’s leading investment projects highlights the Philippines’ strength as a global coconut producer and its potential to attract more foreign investments in integrated processing,” Rodolfo said. “The Syntegral Coconut Project demonstrates how international capital, circular production, technology and market access can help diversify coconut exports, generate quality jobs, and build stronger markets for farmers.”

Developed by Syntegral Global Coconut Products Inc. (SGCPI), the proposed project in San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur is the first integrated coconut processing project registered with the BOI following the enactment of Republic Act No. 11524, or the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act.
The project is designed around a whole-nut processing model that seeks to maximize the value of each coconut by converting its various components and by-products into eight marketable products: coco-erosion mats, coco peat, coconut flour, virgin coconut oil, coconut water, paring oil, pesticide and activated carbon.
At full operations, the facility is designed to process up to 200,000 coconuts daily, generate projected annual revenues of ₱4.22 billion, and earn approximately US$60 million in exports. It is also expected to create 1,065 direct jobs and source about 48 million coconuts annually from local farmers.
With participation from international investors, the project combines foreign capital, processing technology and market networks with locally sourced agricultural resources.
Its integrated approach is intended to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste and create multiple revenue streams from a single agricultural commodity, while incorporating sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, farmer training and support programs, and partnerships with government agencies.
The project also aligns with the objectives of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan, which seeks to modernize the coconut industry through stronger processing capacity, research, marketing, market development and farmer-industry linkages.
For the Philippines, the investment represents an opportunity to move beyond traditional commodity exports toward more diversified and higher-value coconut products, as global demand grows for food ingredients, consumer goods, agricultural inputs and industrial materials derived from coconut.
The project’s recognition at the AIM Investment Awards 2026 underscores the potential of integrated processing to create value beyond the farm, while strengthening local manufacturing, export capacity and market opportunities for coconut farmers.
