One Meralco Foundation Supports 300+ San Juan Pupils

More than 300 elementary students of Salapan Integrated School in San Juan City received school supplies and access to new reading nooks as the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social responsibility arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), brought its Balik Eskwela program to the school.

The initiative, led by Manuel V. Pangilinan-led OMF, seeks to help young learners prepare for the school year by providing essential learning materials while promoting a stronger culture of reading and learning.

The turnover was led by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora and Special Assistant to the Mayor Rocco Zamora, together with Meralco leaders led by OMF President and Chief CSR Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao, First Vice President and Chief HR and Head of Corporate Services Hans Montenegro, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga, and Meralco Bolts Team Manager Paolo Trillo.

They were joined by San Juan City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Losaria, Salapan Integrated School Principal Demie Atienza, and San Juan City Education Program Supervisor for Science Dr. Bradley K. Loo.

The Balik Eskwela school kits, distributed to Kinder to Grade 2 pupils, include tracing workbooks, storybooks, flash cards, pencils and pencil cases, and crayons. The materials are intended to complement classroom learning and help students begin the school year with the basic tools they need.

The activity also featured the participation of Meralco employees from its Human Resources and Corporate Communications offices, who volunteered during the program and engaged with the students.

Adding a sports component to the activity, Meralco Bolts players gave autographed basketballs to student-athletes, encouraging them to pursue excellence both in sports and in their studies.

The Salapan Integrated School activity is part of OMF’s broader Balik Eskwela program, through which the Foundation and its partners aim to distribute more than 10,000 school kits to elementary students across Meralco’s franchise area.

The initiative supports the Department of Education’s mandate to advance quality and equitable access to basic education for Filipino learners, while providing communities with practical support as students return to school.
