DTI, DHL Seal Strategic Pact to Boost MSME Global Competitiveness
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has entered into a strategic partnership with DHL Group Philippines to strengthen the export readiness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), equipping them with logistics expertise and global market access.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on September 10 at the DHL Service Center in Pasig City by DTI Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) Director Bianca Pearl R. Sykimte and DHL executives Nigel Lockett (Country Managing Director, DHL Express Philippines), Yvonne Lee (Managing Director, DHL Global Forwarding Philippines), and Bevan Williams (Country Managing Director, DHL Supply Chain Philippines). The signing was witnessed by EMB Assistant Director Maria Katrina D. Rivera and Emil Dabuet of DHL Express Philippines.
Under the agreement, DHL will provide end-to-end trade solutions across its three business units: international express shipping and customs facilitation (DHL Express), air and ocean freight forwarding (DHL Global Forwarding), and contract logistics and warehouse management (DHL Supply Chain).
The MOU signing coincided with “Usapang Exports: Export 101 – Your Guide to Going Global with DHL Group”, an information session designed for food exporters. The event provided practical guidance on trade processes and how MSMEs can leverage logistics solutions to tap international markets.
This collaboration also marks the rollout of the DHL GoTrade and SME Capacity Building Program, which will feature training workshops, consultations, and market intelligence sharing to empower Filipino exporters with tools to compete globally.
“Our exporters, especially MSMEs, face many hurdles in going global, not just in producing quality products but also in navigating logistics, customs, and compliance requirements. This partnership with DHL gives them a direct line to the knowledge, tools, and network they need to compete abroad,” said Director Sykimte.
She further emphasized the importance of innovation and sustainability: “The future of trade is digital and sustainable. With DHL’s expertise, we can help MSMEs adapt to greener logistics solutions and digital tools that make cross-border trade more efficient. This ensures that our exporters are not only keeping pace with global trends but also contributing to more resilient and responsible trade practices.”
Echoing this commitment, Nigel Lockett remarked: “At DHL Group, we believe that every great product deserves a global audience. Filipino MSMEs have the creativity, quality, and entrepreneurial spirit to thrive internationally—but they need the right support to overcome logistical and regulatory hurdles. Our integrated capabilities are built to meet the evolving needs of exporters and entrepreneurs.”
