When it comes to witch craft, mystical hunting and other magical discoveries, New Orleans will always be the right place for your adventures. Shane Mears, whom is more known for being the Cajun Swamp Whisperer can testify for this one.

Shane, who has always been fascinated for digging and discovering things has become the neighborhood’s man when it comes to these kind of activity.

After catching a catfish that was all white except for its rose-colored fins and a 50-pounders he’d pulled out from Mississippi River, people are trusting Shane to unveil any mysteries left in the city.

So when he came back to New Orleans to be reunited with his first love, voodoo, little did he know that he is about to see something that will shake him up for his entire life.

Eager to excavate the site on Brooklyn Avenue, along the west bank of the Mississippi River, Shane stuck a five-foot steel stick into the ground and started to poke. When all of a sudden, he struck something.

As he dug deeper, he finally found what’d made his iron bar clank bones, teeth, and hair in a bottle from the 19th century!

Mixed emotions ran over through Shane, and he was certain that what he is about to discover is going to be ground breaking.

WITCH BOTTLE

Shane believes that what he stumbled upon is something called a witch bottle.” These vessels were apparently used during the Civil War era to ward off evil spirits and curses placed by witches.

But the real questions is, why do soldiers believe on stuff like witch and magic?

According to Boredom Therapy, “witch bottles were popular during times of extreme hardship — people would try anything to end their plight. Civil War troops were going through unprecedented misery, so they took up this superstition to banish negative energy.

Not every bottle contained only nails, either. Oftentimes human hair and teeth were added, and there were even bottles found with remnants of urine! It’s hard to know the justification for any of this, but historians understand the basic rationale.”
